Lesson Learned

Monday, 18 December 2006

Well, it's been two weeks since my last post, when I was whining about my shin splints. I was having a hard time accepting that I may not be able to do any exercise that involved my shin for awhile, if I wanted to heal. For the first few days, I kept trying to push myself, but that approach failed miserably, and I finally had to succumb to the fact that I was just going to have to take it easy. So, for a good week or so, I stopped doing any regular exercise. I did play around on our Total Gym a bit, and tried to do some sit-ups and such, but for the most part, I just stayed off my leg as much as possible. And of course, my fears of gaining 50 pounds due to inactivity were exaggerated. I had no such problems. The past few days, I've weaned myself back to walking, starting with 15 minutes, 20, etc... I'm feeling much better, thankfully.

So, amidst my shin dilemma, I got some other very interesting news that will definitely affect my weight; to what degree remains to be seen. I'm pregnant! I'm only about five weeks along, so it's still really early and hasn't quite sunk in yet, but we're excited. It was now or never. I'll be 34 this year, and Joe just turned 4, so I wouldn't want to be waiting much longer. I feel like I'm in a good place this time, eating balanced and in moderation, and exercising regularly. But, of course, to someone who has just spent the past two years losing 90 pounds, the prospect of gaining weight for any reason is a little unnerving. Yet, I'm realistic, and just want to focus on overall good health and following the actual recommended guidelines for weight gain during pregnancy, rather than doing the "eating for two" thing. So, here we go... another chapter in the Food Fog Diaries.
