Week 13
Monday, 12 February 2007I had my first appointment with the mid-wife last week. Everything seems to be on track. She wasn't quite convinced of my due date, as my last period was October 24, but I ovulated a month later. I know this because I took an ovulation test. So, I can say with absolute certainty the three day window in which conception occurred. And, since no "action" was going on during the weeks prior, I'm even more certain. Nonethless, I consented to a quick ultrasound in the office, mainly to assure myself that there is just ONE baby in there. I know so many people love the idea of twins, but I'm happy with a singleton. Also, because of the bloating issue, I was feeling bigger and just wanted to make sure. So, we're good to go... one baby... phew...
I'm still doing the little meal thing, but getting better at gauging when to stop eating by how I feel, not what I normally would eat. The feeling is more in my upper abdomen now, then a feeling of fullness in my belly. If I stop when I feel that "feeling," I'm good, and the feeling of comfort comes like a half hour later. It's weird. But, since I'm not having any pain now, and no real discomfort, I cancelled my appointment with the specialist, and will just keep focusing on diet myself. Assuming I make it through the pregnancy without any further digestive complications, I'll investigate it further when I'm not pregnant.
I found a great trick for extending the life of regular pants into pregnancy. I took a ponytail holder and looped it through my button hole, and then around the button. Gives and extra inch or so. Of course, at some point in the next few weeks, I'll have to succumb to maternityware. Even though this is almost certainly my last pregnancy, and I want to enjoy it and indulge in a few extras, maternity clothes just don't excite me. But, for the sake of comfort, I'm going to have to start looking around.
All in all, everything seems to be going well... more next week!
